The International IDEA Communications team works to increase the visibility of the Institute’s work through partnership development and outreach.
The intern, under the guidance of Communications Manager shall perform the following tasks:
Stay abreast of International IDEA’s global presence in the news to curate and disseminate a daily news briefing email based on media monitoring results;
Provide assistance in the reporting and writing of articles related to the organization’s events and impact;
Participate in the online publishing process, as necessary, by generating ideas for content type, drafting and editing (proofreading) articles;
Contribute to the organization of the team’s photo library. (Photos and graphics inventory);
Assist in drafting and/or reviewing leaflets, invitations, infographics and GIFs for use on social media and the organization website, as needed;
Perform any other tasks as requested by the mentor and/or any other person designated by her;
Actively integrate a gender and diversity perspective in all activities.
Expected outcome/Learning opportunities
The intern is expected to benefit from the position by gaining insights, experience and knowledge on:
Writing and editing for the web;
Content and online publishing, mass email marketing;
Analytics monitoring and news scanning;
Participation in International IDEA workshops and brown-bag discussions on the work of the institute.
The objective of the internship is to provide a learning opportunity for an interested and talented student within a relevant study area. The intern is expected to act as part of the team, learning from all team members in their different capacities.
Management and Organization
The intern will be mentored by the Communications Manager and/or any other person designated by her. The intern will be provided with a work station at International IDEA.
Timing and Work plan
The internship will be full time with a preferred start date of 10 September 2018 until 20 December 2018. The intern will work office hours 9:30-17:00, if not otherwise agreed with the mentor.
Qualifications and required skills
Good interpersonal skills;
Analytical, drafting and problem-solving skills;
Ability to appreciate diversity and work as part of a team in such an environment;
Ability to assess, manage and structure information;
Knowledge of Microsoft Office (especially Word and Excel) and content management systems (Drupal, SharePoint and WordPress);
Knowledge of Adobe Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop).
Language skills: Fluent written and oral English required. Swedish, Spanish, Russian or French language skills desirable.
Terms of internship
All internships at International IDEA are unpaid, and Insurance cover in respect of travel, health, medical costs, disability, accident and death is not provided by International IDEA. It would be your responsibility to make your own insurance arrangements to ensure such cover.
